Customer Relations Through Social Media

Being active on social media is becoming more important for businesses in any industry. Not only can social media help give your business more visibility online and potentially boost your online or offline sales, but it can also be used to develop better relationships with your customers. Let’s have a look at how you can improve your customers relations using social media no matter what industry you operate in.

Connect Your Audience

It’s important to leverage the social aspect of social media. People are on social media to connect with other, likeminded people. That is why you should aim to facilitate your customers interacting with your business and each other. If you own a gym for example, you can create a Facebook app that challenges participants to lose a certain amount of weight during the next months. Promote interaction among your customers and potential customers to add to the social aspect of the app.

Provide Value

If you provide great value content through your social media pages, your customers will be more likely to trust you and the services or products you offer. Don’t just focus on promoting your own products on social media though, but help your customers to achieve their goals (that relate to the industry you are in), whether this involves using your products or not. When you show customers that you know what you are talking about, they will be more likely to buy your products or services.

Ask for Feedback

Social media can be a very powerful marketing research tool. Use your social media pages to gather feedback from your customers about your products or to come up with ideas for new products. Lays for example used Facebook to find out which new flavor their customers would like them to produce. This Facebook campaign brought a lot of people to Lays’ Facebook page and gave them tons of ideas for new flavors that have a high chance of success. If you run a software company you could gauge your customers on social media about features that they would like your software to have. You’ll create a lot of goodwill with your customers if you develop a new feature that many of them have asked for.

Provide Great Customer Service Through Social Media

More and more people are using social media to get customer support. If you are active on any social media networks, you need to make sure that support questions are answered in a timely fashion. Even if you cannot answer all questions on the social network itself, you at least need to reply with a link to a support or contact page. If you run a large or international company, you should have a few employees that handle your social media accounts in different timezones so they can answer questions at any time of the day.

If your business is not active on social media yet, now is the time to get started. Make sure that you have a solid social media management strategy though, because a badly executed social media strategy is even worse than not using social media at all.
