How Often Do You Post?
by Matt on Jan 12, 2010 in Blogging
If you read the tips-based article I mentioned in the previous post, Nine Tips for Starting up a Local Site, Blog, you may have noticed two pieces of advice that seem to contradict one another.
Debbia Galant of Baristanet gives this tip: “Post often: five times a day during the week.”
Chrysanthe Tenentes of Brooklyn Based says this: “Make it meaningful. Avoid content overload.”
Hmmmmm. That makes me curious, so let’s tap your expertise:
How often do you post on your hyperlocal blog? How do you decide what’s too much? Would you post more often if you could? Is there a “sweet spot” that you’ve discovered in your hometown?

I try to post about once a day.
I try and post a few times a week. If I post more than that I kill off a good discussion that might erupt after one of the comments. If there is a good discussion going I try and hold off posting my next post if I can.
As a real estate site and not a news site, I think posting every day would scare off some of my readers.
Looking forward to hearing from other folks.
we have 2-3 brief news everyday. bigger news once a week
I try to post everyday if possible and more than once. I also hold back articles that are not time sensitive for those slow days. IMO, a hyperlocal blogger should do their best to post everyday, I think it establishes credibility.
I try to post 2-5 times a day little snippets of content of current news and events going on in my town.
My goal is to post at least once a weekday, but this rarely happens. My philosophy is no post for the sake of posting.
I post 1-3 times per day, but typically I pre-program the posts the night before.
According to our ‘blog metrics’ plugin we post 22.4 posts per month on average. So a little under 1 post per day.
We do however re-post and share links on our Twitter and Facebook profiles more often than this, as is the nature of such sites.
We schedule some posts in advance, but often the frequency depends on the news happening in our area.
Interesting. Looks like we have a variety of replies here, from a couple times a week to a few times per day. I would think there’s no set answer to this question. It would depend what your market and your audience will bear. No sense posting several times per day if there’s not that much to talk about. But if there is, frequent posting can really help build up an interested and loyal audience. Thx for the replies, gang.
