Miriam Ellis: 5 Tips for Hyperlocal Bloggers

by Matt on Aug 12, 2008 in Content

It’s a real joy to see some folks as excited as I am about hyperlocal blogging and the possibilities it offers to connect with neighbors and/or potential customers. One of those folks is a friend of mine, Miriam Ellis, who runs Solas Web Design in the Bay Area of California (well, just north of it, to be precise).

Miriam today shared five tips for local bloggers in Marin County, California, but I think the five tips really apply to any local blogger no matter where you are:

  1. Tap Into The Hometown Pride
  2. Recognize Community Concerns
  3. Be An Ambassador
  4. Get Into The Controversy - Carefully!
  5. Get Down To Business

Check out the full article for Miriam’s explanation of each point.

Thank you so much, Matt! I’m honored to see my article mentioned here. I love writing about this subject and plan to author further posts about different regions of California I know and love. I’m hoping they’ll jumpstart creativity on a local level for anyone who is trying to get into this, and I can ask my clients to read them when a hyperlocal blog is appropriate for them.

And, who knows, maybe some cool business will hire me to be the hyperlocal blogger for some town I love:)

I’m guessing that time will be a big issue in this for the SMB owner. How you and Cari are finding the time to author not only your own 2 business blogs, but the 4 hyperlocal blogs, plus this new one…wow, hats off to you.
    Miriam
